Time is a funny thing. Use it well.
Yesterday our oldest daughter turned EIGHTEEN.
Below is a small excerpt of the letter I wrote her for her 18th birthday.
“A few weeks ago I caught myself wanting to say, “I’m gonna miss you, Noé.”
To my own daughter.
Who isn’t planning on going anywhere any time soon.
It was just a random moment, probably just having breakfast together or a cup of tea in the afternoon. I looked at her and those words popped in my mind. Sometimes (often) my mouth is faster than my brain, but this time I could refrain from actually saying those words.
The thing is… Noélani is turning 18 today.
EIGHTEEN.
A legal adult.
Grown up.
And then I realised why that phrase popped up in my mind. I think it’s my subconscious trying to deal with the fact that basically this is the start of the rest of her life.
(…)
I’m thankful, I’m hopeful, and I’m proud. So, so proud of you, my oldest daughter. The first one to call me dad. My favourite grownup child.
We love you, Noélani. Your future is bright.”
Listen.
In a world where everything seems to be about work, let me just add a slightly different angle for the start of your work week…
Life is short. Know your priorities. Make it count.
